How To Cook Naan Without A Tandoor?

Preparation of dough

  • As your first step collect all the ingredients so that it becomes easier for you to work smoothly as you will have everything in front of your eyes: 2 cups maida, 1 ½ tsp sugar, salt, 1 tsp baking powder, a pinch of baking soda, 1/4th cup yogurt, 2 tbsp milk powder (optional).
  • Put all of these ingredients in a bowl together and mix it well.
  • Pour some water as needed, and make a sticky dough. Knead it well for about 10 minutes.
  • Pour 2 tsp of oil and then knead the dough for 2 minutes.
  • Make balls out of that dough according to the size you prefer. 
  • Apply some oil on each of the balls you made.
  • Cover it up with a muslin cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. 
  • Your soft and smooth dough will be ready.

Roll the dough

  • Spread some flour on the thing where you will be rolling the dough or on your chakla. 
  • Roll the dough for a few seconds.
  • Pat it so that it spreads evenly from all sides.
  • Apply some water on one side of the naan so that it can stick to the pan.

Baking the naan

  • Make sure that you use a non-stick pan.
  • Let the roti bake on low flame.
  • When you see that the bubbles are starting to appear on the naan, turn the tawa open to the open.
  • Maintain some distance between naan and the flame, keep it like that for about 30 seconds to 1 minute as per the naan is taking to bake.
  • Turn the tawa and keep it on the stove again.
  • Apply some butter on the naan.
  • Using a spatula take it off and place it on a plate,
  • Serve it to your guests or family members as you like to serve it.
